Papers and photographs, 1942-1997.

Photographs and photocopies of news clippings and correspondence primarily pertaining to Rubitsky's controversial attempt to receive the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Battle of Buna during World War II. Notarized affidavits, letters of support, and Rubitsky's own letters to various politicians claim his killing of 500 to 600 Japanese soldiers during a single event at Buna. Additionally, the documents suggest that Rubitsky may not have received the Medal of Honor because he was Jewish. Snapshots pertain to Rubitsky's military service with the 128th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Infantry Division in New Guinea in addition to later images of an elderly Rubitsky with other veterans and also with Japanese objects obtained as "spoils of war." Four photographs and a small address book appear to have been "scrounged" from Japanese soldiers. The snapshots are of Japanese military personnel and have considerable writing in Japanese on the back.
